The Message Bible translates 1 Timothy 1:3-4 as condemning the fantasy stories and fanciful family trees that were coming into the Christian community, distracting them from really matters, deepening faith and obedience.  I immediately thought of the Christmas stories and the genealogies in Matthew and Luke for Jesus.  I then went to the Revised Common Lectionary and learned this part of 1 Timothy is never read in the cycle of readings.

I invite you to read this passage in your choice of translation, and then add your comments about how you would interpret this passage, and your response to it.
